Kane and Kendall County Bike Week events
The Kane Kendall Council of Mayors is excited to announce the first annual Bike Week event! Bike Week is a week-long celebration throughout Kane and Kendall County that will bring together bike advocates through coordinated events and public demonstrations to encourage more permanent bicycle infrastructure and programming.
Bike Week will officially take place from May 13-19, but will have events happening throughout the entire month of May. Here's a list of all the participants in this year's Bike Week:- City of Batavia: The Batavia Bicycle Commission will be creating safety videos to educate automobile drivers and bicyclists on how to safely share the road.
- City of Aurora: The City will be creating a two-way temporary bike lane on the east side of River Street to act as a bypass during the construction near the Fox River Trail. In addition, they will be removing parking near Aurora's Restaurant
 Row (W. New York Street) and using that space for outdoor games and seating. Visit Aurora's Bike Week webpage for more info!
- Elgin Bike Hub: The Elgin Bike Hub will be hosting a number of events before and during Bike Week! These exciting events include Bike to School Day festivities, Cyclofemme, Ride of Silence/Blessing of the Bicycles, Bike to Work Day, Full Moon Ride, and Bike Elgin Ride.
- Project Mobility & The Bike Rack: Project Mobility is hosting an Adaptive Cycling Night on Wednesday, May 15th from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Prairie Green Community Gardens in Geneva (Corner of Peck Road and Bricher Road). Project Mobility will provide specialized bikes suited for a wide range of disabilities. The Bike Rack will also be providing electric assist bikes, electric assist attachments, and new bike models to test!
- Geneva History Museum: The Geneva History Museum will be offering historical bike tours throughout Bike Week. Tour-goers will experience the scenic Fox River, Fabyan Forest Preserve, and historic downtown on their seven mile tour.
- Elgin History Museum: The Elgin History Museum has prepared a self-guided biking tour that residents and visitors can experience at their own pace while they take in some of Elgin's most historical sites! The map is available here.
- Kane Kendall Council of Mayors: The Kane Kendall Council of Mayors is organizing a month-long biking fitness challenge in May. The challenge will be conducted using the Endomondo app. All are welcome to join the competition, it's completely free to join! Sign up here.

Saturday Recycling Event
Electronics, books, paint, and document shredding
A Kane County Recycles Event will be held this Saturday 5/11/19, between 8am and 12 noon, at 540 S. Randall in St. Charles. The drop off site will be accepting electronics, books and paint for recycling, and documents for shredding.
Costs
- TVs and Computer Monitors have a recycling fee paid directly to the non-profit recycler ($25 for screens under 21" - measured diagonally across the screen, or $35 for screens 21" and over), payable by the resident with cash or card.
- Paint has a recycling fee per container, payable by the resident with cash or check. Liquid LATEX paint is $2/quart can, $3.50/gallon can, and $10/ 5-gallon bucket.
- All else is free to drop-off.
Next event: The next event after this one will be June 8th, 2019 and will be for electronics, books, and shredding. See here for the Kane County Recycles full schedule of collection events for 2019.
Not accepted: We do not accept hazardous waste or large household appliances like washers and refrigerators.

Kane County Rainwater Resources
Rainwater management resources available: Stormwater Management & Flood Preparedness workshop and rain barrel sale
Stormwater Management and Flood Preparedness
Join the Kane County Division of Environmental and Water Resources to gain an understanding of stormwater, ways to utilize it, and how to prepare for a flood. The event will include a presentation by Jim Kleinwachter with the Conservation Foundation and a short film on flood preparedness. Refreshments will be served The workshop will be held on Friday, May 17th from 1:00 - 2:30 PM at the Kane County Government Center (719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva, IL - Building A - 1st Floor Auditorium.
Rain Barrel Sale
In partnership with the Kane County Forest Preserve, the Conservation Foundation is making rain barrels available for purchase. The gallon rain barrels come in assorted colors (green, black, red, grey and blue) and are available in 50 or 55 gallon sizes ($55 - $60).
Orders can be completed online and picked up at the Creek Bend Nature Center at the Leroy Oakes Forest Preserve (37W700 Dean Street, St. Charles, IL). The pick-up day is Thursday, May 23rd from 3:00 - 5:00 PM.

Kane Funding Opportunity
Making Kane County Fit for Kids is currently accepting applications for funding proposals
Making Kane County Fit for Kids (Fit for Kids) is making funding available to community organizations to support projects in Kane County that increase physical activity and healthy eating in the various sectors of the community described in the Fit Kids 2020 plan.
To change the environment in Kane County to be more health supporting, it is critical that multiple sectors are involved including community groups, education, faith communities, government, healthcare, social service providers, worksites and more. Each of these areas represent important components of the overall system that influences the health of Kane County children.
Project Eligibility
Agreements will be entered with organizations for projects ranging between $500 and $15,000. At this time Making Kane County Fit for Kids expects to distribute up to $60,000 with the average awards anticipated to be around $5,000.
Deadline: All proposals must be submitted no later than Friday, May 24, 2019.

Achieving Inclusive Growth
CMAP looks to advance strategies for core ON TO 2050 principle
In a recent publication CMAP highlighted some of the ways in which it is prioritizing Inclusive Growth through the implementation of the ON TO 2050 long-range comprehensive plan.
CMAP, the Illinois Department of Transportation, and U.S. Department of Transportation are enabling more transportation projects in the highest need communities by allowing them to access federal funds without a local match. CMAP's economic research is focused on strategies to jumpstart the industries that will grow our region's economy while ensuring equitable access to good jobs in these globally competitive industries. Additionally, CMAP's new pilot program has placed members of its planning staff in Calumet Park and Sauk Village for two-year assignments to help build community expertise for the long haul. It is anticipated that this program will be expanded to other communities across the region in 2020 and beyond.
